The EU launches EIT (European Institute of Technology), a new agency that seeks to close the technological gap with the United States, and to create added value. The agency will operate a €2.5 billion budget during its first six years.
Europe is determined to transform its research efforts into commercial products. To attain that goal it will invest 3% of its GDP in research, development and innovation. The EIT will jumpstart its initiatives by the end of 2008, with a six-year €2.5 billion budget.
In the spirit of the agency´s theme –“transforming innovative ideas into realities”–, the EIT will leverage all the sides of the so-called “triangle of knowledge”: education, investment and innovation, in order to transform its research efforts into marketable technologies.
